"Suddenly, my neighborhood is full of little children. Seems like it changed overnight but actually it took a year or two to switch from quiet and peaceful to Six Flags Over Narberth.
There must be a couple of thousand kids on my side of the street alone. All summer long the air's been filled with the sounds of runaway Big Wheels and roller blades, and little high pitched voices teasing and laughing and shrieking. And if you wake up in the middle of the night with the windows open and you lie real still you're sure to hear some little baby in the neighborhood ordering up a diaper replacement.
But I'll tell you, those kids are sweet to watch. There's nothing quite like seeing that pack of little girls running up the sidewalk towards my place, swooping and wheeling into the yard, chirping and singing. Sort of like a flock of goldfinches only prettier."
